Yale rallied from a 2-0 deficit to top Cornell 3-2 as captain Fran Gardner scored the game-winner with 18:48 to play. The win evens Yale's Ivy record at 1-1, while Cornell falls to 1-2.

Yale controlled the action early in the first half until a turnover led to Cornell's first goal, a five-yard shot from Blair Corcoran at 20:30. The Big Red increased its lead to 2-0 when Karleigh Burns scored on a penalty stroke at 9:23.

Yale's comeback started on a penalty corner with 1:33 left in the first half, as Meredith Howell scored off of assists from Sarah Driscoll and Jana Halfon. Those same two assisted again as Meredith Hudson scored on a penalty corner at 30:50 of the second half to tie the score. Gardner then scored off a rebound to put Yale up 3-2, and goalie Krissy Nesburg made that lead stand up. It was the first time in head coach Ainslee Lamb's seven seasons at Yale (three as an assistant) that the Bulldogs have beaten the Big Red.

"Getting our first Ivy win is huge," Lamb said. "The fact that we came back from a 2-0 deficit shows great character."

Nesburg finished with six saves, while Cornell's Kaitlin Tierney made nine.

Yale returns to action Sunday against Vermont at 1:00.
