ITHACA, N.Y. - Catie De Stio's goal 3:23 into overtime gave Cornell a 2-1 win over Yale Saturday afternoon, spoiling a 13-save effort by sophomore goalkeeper Katie Bolling. The Bulldogs trailed for most of the game but tied it up with seven minutes to play on a goal by junior back Julia Weiser.

Cornell (5-4, 3-0 Ivy League) grabbed the lead only 37 seconds in when Abbi Horn directed in a crossing pass from De Stio. The Bulldogs regained their composure, however, and would shut down the Big Red for the remainder of regulation.

"The good news is we came right back and battled them for the next 69 minutes," said Yale head coach Pam Stuper.

Yale (2-6, 0-3 Ivy League) also benefited from a pair of defensive saves. With one minute to go in the first half freshman midfielder/back Taylor Sankovich pulled a ball off the goal line. Two minutes into the second half sophomore back Vicki Gordon made a diving save to keep the Bulldogs within one.

"Vicki Gordon came off the bench and had a really good game," Stuper said. "Our young backfield is coming together."

The Bulldogs got the equalizer on a penalty corner, with junior forward Ashley McCauley inserting to the stick-stopper, junior midfielder Katie Cantore, to set up Weiser's shot. But that would be Yale's only penalty corner of the game -- Cornell had nine -- and one of only four shots on goal for the Bulldogs.

"We're playing good hockey in the midfield," Stuper said. "We just have to make more happen below the 25. I thought we controlled the tempo in the first half, but Cornell got more shots. We just weren't getting into their circle enough."

Bolling continued to impress in just her second collegiate start, making six saves in the second half to help the comeback attempt.

"Katie played a good game," said Stuper. "Both of Cornell's goals came because of marking problems."

Yale visits No. 2 Syracuse Sunday afternoon.
