Oct. 9, 2004
HANOVER, N.H. - Elizabeth Topp's second goal of the game just 2:28 into overtime lifted Yale to a 3-2 victory over Dartmouth at Scully-Fahey Field. Freshman Harriet Thayer assisted on the goal, which gave the Bulldogs their first Ivy win of the season and their third straight overall.
Elizabeth Friedlander made five saves in goal for Yale (5-5, 1-2 Ivy).
Audrey Knutson had a goal and an assist for the Big Green (4-7, 2-2 Ivy).
The game was a tale of two halves. Dartmouth controlled the tempo of the opening period, holding a 4-2 advantage in shots and a 2-0 edge in penalty corners. Knutson gave the Big Green a 1-0 lead midway through the period after Lindsay Gossage saved a pass along the endline and crossed it to Knutson, who knocked home her eighth goal of the season.
The second half was a different story. Yale led Dartmouth in shots (14-7) and penalty corners (10-0). The Bulldogs exceeded their first-half shot total in the first 45 seconds of the second half, peppering Balukjian before scoring just 1:13 after halftime. Meredith Hudson knotted the game on a direct corner. Sarah Driscoll and Chrissy Hall assisted on the goal.
Four minutes later, Allison Welsh put Dartmouth back on top. Ashley Choren swept a backhanded shot into the circle, where Knutson pounced on the ball and found Welsh for the go-ahead goal. However, Yale once again drew even at 22:28 when Topp scored unassisted. Hudson made a defensive save with 5:11 remaining to keep the score tied.
For the game, Yale finished with a 17-12 edge in shots and a 10-4 advantage in corners.
The Bulldogs return to action next Saturday when they play at Harvard at noon.
