NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Senior Katie Rivkin scored the game winning goal off an assist from junior Heather Orrico in the second half as Yale earned a thrilling 1-0 victory over arch-rival Harvard at Johnson Field. This goal marks Rivkin's first of the season, and issues Orrico her third assist.

The first half was relatively quiet with both teams vying to be the dominant force on the field. Harvard out shot Yale 5-1, but the Bulldogs played strong defensively, and kept the Crimson scoreless at the half.

The Bulldogs came out with intensity at the second half and immediately put pressure on the Harvard defense. A penalty corner called seven minutes into the second half gave the Bulldogs the perfect chance to break the 0-0 tie. Taking advantage of this opportunity, Orrico took a powerful shot at the top of the circle and Rivkin deflected the ball into the goal. The Crimson fought hard for a goal, but were ultimately out shot by the Bulldogs 9-4 in the second half. Ultimately, the Yale defense, led by senior goalkeeper Kate Crandall (three saves in the game), was able to contain the Harvard offense and ensure the Bulldog victory.

"This is a great win for Yale Field Hockey against a great Ivy league opponent," said Yale head coach Pam Stuper. "It was a fabulous team effort."

The Bulldogs will use the momentum from this victory in their next game on Wednesday against Quinnipiac.
