NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Brown got a pair of goals from Tacy Zisk to finish off the season with a 3-0 win over Yale Saturday, spoiling senior day at Johnson Field for Yale's Class of 2008.

Played in cold, windy, rainy conditions, the game turned early on when Zisk scored an unassisted goal at 12:47. Hungry for their first win of the season, the Bears tacked on another goal -- this one by Katie Hyland -- 15 minutes later.

"The first 10 minutes, we stepped out and were playing the way we were capable of," said Yale head coach Pam Stuper. "After we got scored on, we got back on our heels a little bit, but in the second half we pulled it together."

That was no small task considering that senior forward/midfielder Harriet Thayer, the team captain and one of the prime generators of attack for the Bulldogs, was slowed for much of the first half after being hit in the head and did not play at all in the second half. With many other Bulldogs playing through pain Yale nonetheless kept the pressure on, outshooting Brown 10-2 in the second half. But the Bears made one of their shots count, as Zisk scored at 58:21, and that was enough for the 3-0 final. Bears keeper Krisen Hodavance finished with six saves.

"When our players saw their captain head off the field, I felt they stepped it up and tried to do what they could," Stuper said. "Brown played a great game."

While Thayer was sidelined, Yale's other seniors -- back Lorrie Kiger, forward Cat Lindroth and back Beth Raveche -- all were out on the field until the end.

"The seniors all had great games," Stuper said. "The four of them can feel proud of how they played."

Yale finished the season with seven wins, the most the team has had since also winning seven in the Class of 2008's freshman year.
