Freshman midfielder Harriet Thayer and sophomore goaltender Elizabeth Friedlander were selected by USA Field Hockey to train at the organization's brand new Elite Performance Training Centers. Thayer and Friedlander will train in one of the Training Center's regional locations to further enhance their skills and will compete for potential selection to the USA national teams. Thayer and Freidlander will join 30 other athletes to compete for these prestigious teams. Yale was the only Ivy school with more than one athlete selected.
Thayer had an impressive rookie campaign for the Bulldogs and was the only member of the class of 2008 to start every game. She scored one goal and notched five assists in 2004 and finished fifth in total points with eight.
Friedlander also had a breakout year. When junior goaltender Kate Crandall was sidelined with an illness, Friedlander played strongly in the starting role, with a 2.50 GAA and .696 save percentage.
The Elite Performance Training Centers will conduct regional tryouts for 2005 in late January and early February.
