Bulldogs Off to Italy, Greece

The Yale field hockey team leaves today for a nine-day trip to Europe that will start in Italy and end at the Olympics in Greece. The Bulldogs depart from JFK in New York Tuesday night and will arrive in Milan by way of London's Heathrow airport on Wednesday. The trip begins with sightseeing in the Como/Milan area Thursday, including a bus tour through the Bellagio neighborhood where celebrities such as George Clooney and Gianni Versace have homes. Yale plays its first of two games later that day, taking on Lugano HC at Cornadero Stadium at 6:30 PM local time (12:30 PM Eastern). Friday includes a guided tour of Milano and time for shopping in the area known as the home of Italian fashion. The day ends with a game against Cuneo HC at 8:00 PM local time (2:00 PM Eastern). Saturday begins with a trip to Venice and transfer to San Marco's square for a tour of this city of over 1,000 islands on the Adriatic Sea. Later in the day the team practices on an artificial turf field en route to the hotel. The Bulldogs travel to Anconna on Sunday, then board the floating hotel Anek Line Italia and cruise to the Olympics in Greece. They arrive in Athens on Monday to see two men's field hockey games. They see four women's field hockey games on Tuesday along with getting a tour of Athens. Yale returns to the U.S. on Wednesday and resumes practice the next day.
