NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Yale field hockey team picked up a pair of wins last weekend, and the Bulldogs aim to repeat that feat with games against Penn (Saturday, Noon, GameTracker) and at Fairfield (Sunday, 3:00, Live Stats) on the slate this weekend.
Yale (4-8, 1-3 Ivy League) racked up seven goals in the two wins last weekend, and junior forward Ashley McCauley (Rye, N.Y.) had a hand in four of them. McCauley scored three goals, including both game-winners, and also had an assist as she continued her climb up the scoring charts. She leads the team in both goals (nine, third in the Ivy League) and points (20, fourth in the Ivy League).
Junior midfielder Katie Cantore (Hershey, N.Y.) had a goal and an assist last weekend and is second on the team in points with 10. That's one more than she had in her first two seasons at Yale combined. Cantore is tied for the Ivy League lead in defensive saves (three) and is fourth in the league in assists (six).
The Bulldogs have used both junior Charlotte Goins (New Bern, N.C.) and sophomore Katie Bolling (Ann Arbor, Mich.) extensively in goal, and the duo has combined for a .766 save percentage and a 2.48 goals-against average. Goins shut out Fairfield in last year's 7-0 Yale win, making four saves. McCauley scored three goals.
Penn (4-10, 2-2 Ivy League) has seven goals in its last two games, both wins, after scoring only 16 in its first 12 games. Senior midfielder Rachel Eng leads the team in goals (seven) and is tied with senior midfielder Margaretha Ehret for the team lead in points (16). Senior goalkeeper Alanna Butera has a .731 save percentage.
Fairfield (4-11, 1-2 NEC), which hosts New Hampshire Saturday, will be playing its final home game Sunday and will honor the team's five seniors. The Stags' scoring leaders are five-foot-eight freshman forward Marit Westenberg and five-foot-one senior forward Emily Janis, five goals and three assists each. Sophomore Jennifer Utz has seen the most time in goal and has a .652 save percentage and 3.29 goals-against average.
