At the close of the field hockey season, senior Jana Halfon (Richmond, Va.) was named Ivy League Player of the Week for the second time this fall, while freshman Trish Bissett (Vancouver, B.C.) was selected Ivy League Rookie of the Week for the third time this season. The honors come off a 2-0 weekend for Yale. Halfon assisted in the win over Fairfield, and scored the game-tying goal and tallied an assist against Brown. Bissett returned to play this weekend after sitting out four games due to a concussion.
Halfon, a midfielder, has been an offensive powerhouse for the Bulldogs throughout her four years. She finished this season leading the team in points with 30 and goals with 11. Her eight assists are second on the team. As a junior, Halfon scored 13 points and was named NFHCA Academic All-America. As a sophomore, she led the team in points with 21, and was second in goals and assists.
Bissett, a forward, has made an immediate impact on the squad. In the 12 games she played this season, she scored 11 points with five goals and one assist. She scored the game-winning goal against Vermont with 4:46 left to play. Prior to Yale, Bissett was co-captain of the British Columbia Under-18 team and the BC Under-18 touring squad that traveled to Ireland. She was also a member of the Canadian Junior National squad.
