NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Senior forward/midfielder Harriet Thayer (Briarcliff, N.Y.) was named first team Longstreth/NFHCA All-Mideast Region Wednesday. This is Thayer's second straight honor from the NFHCA. She was a second team selection last year.
The speedy and skillful Thayer, who started all 68 games of her career, has been one of Yale's prime playmakers since joining the Bulldogs. Elected team captain this year, she tied for sixth in the league with six assists, including a pair of assists on game-winning goals in double-overtime (vs. Harvard and Dartmouth). She had assists in four straight games during Yale's six-game winning streak in the middle of the season.
Last week, Thayer became the seventh player in Yale history to earn multiple first team All-Ivy selections -- she was a unanimous first team selection each of the past two years. She finished her career with four Ivy League honors (two first-team selections, two honorable mention selections).
In addition to her time with the Bulldogs, Thayer has been involved with USA Field Hockey's New England High Performance Training Center squad for the last three years. She has gone to the National Championships twice.
A religious studies major with a concentration in political science, Thayer is a graduate of School of the Holy Child.
The 2007 Longstreth/NFHCA Division I All-American Teams will be released on Monday, November 19th.
