Park Leads Way for Bulldogs in First Action of 2012

The Yale women's golf team officially teed off its 2012 spring season Friday at the Rio Verde Invitational, hosted by Western Michigan, at the Quail Run Golf Course in Rio Verde, AZ. The Bulldogs are tied for 15th in a highly-competitive field after day one, and were led in scoring by sophomore Sun Gyoung Park, whose opening-round 79 has her tied for 30th in the overall standings.

Junior Joy Kim posted Yale's second-best score of the day with her 82 (55th overall), while sophomore Seo Hee Moon heads to Saturday's action tied for 62nd (84). Also tied at that spot are seniors Callie Kemmer and Lily Boettcher. That trio is not too far from being near the front of the pack, and Park is a mere five strokes out of the top three. Texas A&M - Corpus Christi's Ryann White distanced herself from the field with a score of 71 (even par), two strokes ahead of the second-place finishers.

As a team, Yale is also not too far off the pace. Akron leads the way with acombined score of 305, but the Bulldogs (329) are just a point behind Ohio and will look to make up even more ground in Saturday's second round.
