Yalies Finish 25th at Collegiate Team Championship

Strong Performance Against Nation's Best

POWELL, Ohio — The Yale women's golf duo of sophomore Caroline Rouse and junior Sun Gyoung Park finished in 25th place at the Pure Silk Women's Collegiate Team Championship held here on July 1-Aug. 2.

The performance put the pair in the top half of the 54-strong field at this 54-hole event at the Wedgewood Golf & Country Club in Powell, Ohio, where many of the competitors came from among the nation's top golfing programs in all NCAA Divisions. A pair from the University of Tennessee clinched the tournament, followed by a duo from South Caroline.

The College Team Championship featured a unique format: on the first day of play, players alternated shots, on the second day of competition, players took the best ball, while on the final day of play, the tournament aggregated scores of the two players in each pair.

For Park and Rouse, the first day of play saw the pair finish at +7. Then, a strong performance on the second day (-2) saw the duo climb the leader board, before a combined aggregate of 157 in the final day put them in 25th overall.

Rouse and Park entered on the heels of several strong performances throughout the regular season. The two players were co-recipients of the Widdy Neale Award this year, which is given annually to the player who does the most to boost the morale of the team and who goes the extra step both on and off the course.

The competition that concluded Friday took place at the Wedgewood Golf & Country Club. Designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr, and opened in 1991, the course is considered to be one of the most challenging courses in Ohio.
