Opportunity to Register Strong Result in Competitive Tournament
NEW HAVEN, Conn. — The Yale women's golf team will wrap up its fall season this weekend when it travels to Bethlehem, Pa., to compete at the Oct. 20-21 Lehigh Invitational.
The tournament, which will take place at the Saucon Valley Country Club, will bring the Bulldogs' fall season to a close.
"Saucon Valley is a very challenging course that played host to the US Women's Open a few years ago," said Head Coach Chawwadee Rompothong '00. "It would be great to see us overcome cold weather and tricky greens and try to post some low scores going into the off season."
This season, which included four other competitions, had several highlights.
It opened with the Sept. 15-16 Dartmouth Invitational, which Yale clinched in a stunning all round performance: sophomore Shreya Ghei claimed the individual medal and four other members of the Yale team made the top 10.
The Bulldogs then battled tough competition and sometimes-rough conditions to finish in fourth place at the Sept. 21-23 Yale Intercollegiate and ninth place at the Sept. 28-30 Nittany Lion Invitational. At both those tournaments, juniors Seo Hee Moon and Sun Gyoung Park both put in strong, consistent performances that bolstered their team's overall performance.
And last weekend, as the Yale team closed in 10th place at the Oct. 8-9 Lady Pirate Intercollegiate, sophomore Caroline Rouse put on a powerful display to finish in a tie for fourth place, individually—a performance that earned her a spot on the All-Tournament team.
This weekend, the team will look to consolidate its momentum in what will likely be another difficult field. Following the Lehigh Invitational, the Bulldogs will break from competition until the spring season kicks off with a tournament in Florida in March.
