Bernabe Wins Individual Medal
HANOVER, N.H.—The Yale women's golf team clinched victory at the Dartmouth Invitational for the second year in a row, as a trio of Bulldogs took the top three spots at the Sept. 14-15 tournament in Hanover, N.H.
Following a school-record 286 on Saturday, Yale shot a 289 on Sunday at the Hanover Country Club to finish at -1, 23 strokes ahead of second-place Boston University at +22. The Bulldogs' strong performance improved upon last year's, in which they claimed the championship with a 15-stroke lead over Boston University. This year's victory came in a field of 11 teams, including Ancient Eight rivals Brown and Dartmouth.
It was an all-round team performance that saw several Yale golfers at the helm of the leaderboard. Leading the way was freshman Elisabeth Bernabe, who won the individual medal with a 141 (-3) total score in her debut collegiate tournament.
Bernabe was followed by senior Seo Hee Moon, who shot 69—the low round of the day—on Sunday to finish in second at 142 (-2). Marika Liu, who tied for sixth last year, finished in third this year at 145 (+1).
Freshman Sandy Wongwaiwate, also appearing in her first collegiate tournament, contributed to the strong team result with a final score of 148 (+4) to tie for eighth. Senior captain Sun Gyoung Park finished two strokes further back, at 150 (+6) in a tie for 11th. Last year's tournament medallist, junior Shreya Ghei finished in 13th with a 152 (+8).
The Bulldogs will now return home to host the Sept. 20-22 Yale Intercollegiate at the Yale Golf Course.
