NEW HAVEN, Conn.—Freshman Elisabeth Bernabe won the Oct. 12-13 F.A. Borsodi Student Championship on Sunday at the Yale Golf Course in New Haven, Conn. The Borsodi Student Championship is an inter-squad scrimmage competition that helps prepare the Yale golfers for further tournament competition in the season.
Bernabe won the championship by shooting two rounds of 74 to finish at 148. Her victory followed two tournament medals earlier in the season, at the Sept. 14-15 Dartmouth Invitaitonal and the Sept. 20-22 Yale Intercollegiate.
Fellow freshman Sandy Wongwaiwate finished two strokes behind Bernabe with 150, in second place with rounds of 74 and 76. Wongwaiwate has also had an impressive start to her collegiate career, sharing second place amid a highly competitive field at the Sept. 27-29 Nittany Lion Invitational.
Sophomore Deanna Song carded rounds of 79 and 74 to close in third place with 153.
All the Yale golfers found the weekend's scrimmage a good opportunity to brush up for the season ahead on an always-challening course. The Yale Golf Course is one of six sites nationwide selected to host the regional playoffs for the 2015 NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championship.
Next weekend the Bulldogs will compete at the Sacred Heart Fall Classic, which takes place at the Great River Golf Club in Milford, Conn.
