Pair of Bulldogs Receive All-Ivy Honors

NEW HAVEN, Conn.—Freshman Elisabeth Bernabe and Junior Marika Liu both received All-Ivy recognition after impressive performances at this weekend's Ivy League Championship in Springfield, N.J.

The awards are fitting capstones for the strong seasons put together by both of these golfers. Bernabe finished in third at the Ivy League Championship with a 226, good for First Team All-Ivy recognition. The play of Bernabe, who hails from Anaheim Hills, Calif., has been a story for the Bulldogs all season.  Particularly early in the season, Bernabe bolstered Yale to top finishes. She finished in first place overall in the season's first event, the Dartmouth Invitational, which Yale won. She also individually won the Oct. 12-13 F.A. Borsodi Student Championship, Yale's intra-squad tournament.

Junior Marika Liu, also from California, shot just two strokes higher, turning in a scorecard of 228. Her weekend was highlighted by a second-round score of 70, which put her in a great position going into the final round. That round was one of the lowest of any golfer at the tournament. She missed First Team All-Ivy by one spot and was given Second Team All-Ivy. Liu has a knack for turning in her best performances when it matters most: she finished in third place at last year's Ivy League Championship and took home First Team All-Ivy honors.
