STATE COLLEGE, Pa.—As the first day of the two-day Nittany Lion Invitational comes to an end for the Yale women's golf team, junior Jennifer Peng is off to a phenomenal start. Today's event, played on Penn State's Blue Course (6,306 yds and par 72), consisted of two rounds. Players whose scores contribute to the overall team score include Jennifer Peng, Elisabeth Bernabe, Sandy Wongwaiwate, Jayshree Sarathy, and Julie Luo. Individuals competing for the Bulldogs included Felicia Chang, Sara Garmezy, and Sabrina Long.
Peng (+2) started and ended round one with a bang, firing birdies on holes 1, 10 and 18. She ended the round with a score of 74. During round two, Peng bettered her impressive round one performance with a score of 72. She is currently in fourth place individually and has a good shot at moving up to the top three during Sunday's final.
Junior Jayshree Sarathy followed behind Peng with a round one score of 78. Her consistency continued as she ended round two with a score of 81. Senior Elisabeth Bernabe was consistent throughout the day and scored an 83 in both rounds. Captain Sandy Wongwaiwate ended round one with a score of 80 and improved in round two with a score of 78.
The Bulldogs ended round one with a team score of 313 and round two with a score of 314. They end day one in eighth place with a total of 627.
Golfers will return to the course starting at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday.
