RANCHO SANTA FE, Calif. — On the first day of the March Mayhem at The Farms tournament, the Yale Women's Golf Team was knocked out by the number one seed, USC.
Sophomore Julie Luo started the day strong with a birdie on hole 1 and kept up play against USC's Victoria Morgan for 12 holes. Senior Elisabeth Bernabe played consistently throughout the round, scoring par on seven of the 12 holes played.Junior Jayshree Sarathy held her own against USC's Tiffany Chan for 11 holes. Due to scores of the other matches, Sarathy's match went unfinished.
As the Bulldogs moved into their second round of the day, they faced off in the consolation bracket against UNLV. Luo continued her strong starts with a birdie on hole 2 and a win over UNLV's Elizabeth Prior by 1. Captain Sandy Wongwaiwate also had exceptional second round. However, while the Bulldogs had a much improved second round, they were edged out in the end by UNLV.
While the Bulldogs are off to a tough start, the third round of the tournament will continue tomorrow.
