Shin Wins Ivy League Championship

April 17, 2005

East Hampton, NY - Sophomore Cindy Shin became the first Yalie in five years to capture the Ivy League individual championship this afternoon.

Shin fired a four-over 76 in the final round to hold off Princeton's Meg Nakamura, who finished just one shot behind Shin at Maidstone Golf Club in East Hampton, N.Y. Shin finished the tournament 14-over.

The Coppell, Texas native played well throughout the day and showed her composure on the back nine, where she shot par on all but one hole.

As a team, the Elis finished second to the Tigers. Yale posted a team score of 1005, 35 strokes off of the tough pace Princeton set. The Bulldogs saved their best for last, however, with a 325 in the third and final round, their best single round score of the weekend.

January Romero finished in seventh after shooting a 12-over 84 that included a birdie on the eighth hole. Jessica Shapiro and Elli Brophy finished 12th and 14th respectively.
