NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Cindy Shin (Flower Mound, Texas), a rising senior, has been named captain of the Yale women's golf team for 2006-07. A three-time All-Ivy selection, Shin led Yale to an Ivy League championship and an NCAA regional appearance this past season.
Shin was selected by a team vote at the Yale Golf Course April 29. She finished second individually at the rain-shortened Ivy League Championship, shooting a 118 over a round and a half. The Bulldogs' team score of 488 gave them a five-stroke win over Harvard, their first Ivy title since 2003 and sixth in 10 years.
Shin shot a 74 on the final day of the regional to finish with a three-round score of 226, tied with Jeehae Lee for best on the team and 54th overall.
In 2005 Shin became the first Yalie in five years to capture the Ivy League individual championship. She fired a four-over 76 in the final round to finish 14 over and hold off Princeton's Meg Nakamura, who finished just one shot behind her. The Bulldogs finished second in the event.
As a freshman in 2004 Shin shot a 232 to finish second at the Ivy Championship. She was Yale's top finisher at that tournament and five others.
Shin is a graduate of Coppell High.
