Chawwadee Rompothong '00 Named Head Coach
July 7, 2006
NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Chawwadee Rompothong, who guided the Bulldogs to the Ivy League title this spring as the interim head coach, has been named the permanent head coach of the Yale women's golf team. Rompothong is a 2000 Yale graduate and was a three-time All-Ivy golfer who helped the Bulldogs win three Ivy titles in her playing days.
Rompothong, who served as an assistant coach for the Bulldogs in 2005, earned All-Ivy honors in 1997, 1999 and 2000. She finished fourth at the Ivy League championship in both 1999 and 2000 and was sixth in 1997.
After Yale, she turned professional and competed on the Futures Tour in 2001 and 2002. In 2003, she enrolled in the PGA Professional Golf Management Program and became a PGA certified Golf Professional.
Rompothong also has worked as the second assistant professional at the Pinehurst Resort, home of the 1999 and 2005 men's U.S. Open, and as a teaching professional at Montammy Golf Club in Alpine, N.J.
Rompothong replaces Mary Moan, who took a leave of absence as the head coach this spring to pursue a professional playing career. Moan recently decided she wanted to continue with her professional playing aspirations.
