Yale Coach Moan Wins Connecticut Women's Amateur

Aug. 13, 2004

Yale Women's Golf Coach Mary Moan won the Connecticut Women's Amateur Golf Tournament Thursday, besting Guilford's Katie Stepanek by one stroke. Moan shot a 76 in the third and final round to finish at 228, holding off a late charge by Stepanek with a two-putt par from 40 feet on the final hole. Moan also won the Connecticut Women's Amateur match play tournament in June, beating Stepanek 4 and 3 in the final. She is the first golfer to win both tournaments in the same calendar year since Liz Janangelo in 1999. Moan is entering her fourth season with the Bulldogs and has already led Yale to an Ivy League title and the school's first NCAA Championship appearance. She won 16 collegiate tournaments while an undergraduate at Princeton, including the 1997 Ivy League Championship. She was named to the 1997 National Golf Coaches' Association All-America team after advancing to the NCAA Championships as an individual. Moan is next scheduled to compete in the Met Open in Scarsdale, NY August 16 and 17. She will be interviewed on radio 1410 AM at 8:30 AM Saturday August 14.
