Former Bulldog Wins LPGA Tournament of Champions
Nov. 15, 2004
Former Yale golfer Heather Daly-Donofrio posted a 2-under-par 70 in Sunday's final round of the LPGA Tournament of Champions in Mobile, Ala. to take a four-stroke victory. Daly-Donofrio, also a former head coach for the Elis, carded a 19-under 269 (69-66-64-70) on the Crossings course at Magnolia Grove for her first Tour win since 2001.
In previous years, the event featured only Hall of Famers and winners during the current and previous two seasons. This season the tournament was expanded to include winners from the past three years, which enabled Daly-Donofrio to compete.
Her 19-under par performance matched the course record for three rounds. It also marked the first time in her career that Daly-Donofrio posted three sub-70 rounds.
Daly-Donofrio, a 1991 Yale graduate, was a four-year member of the Elis' women's golf squad that won Ivy titles in 1988, 1990 and 1991. She was the head coach of the Bulldog women's golf team from 1997 to 2000 when she joined the LPGA Tour.
Daly-Donofrio's only win prior to Sunday as at the First Union Betsy King Classic in her first season on the Tour. She has two top-10 finishes in 2004 to go along with her Tournament of Champions title.
