After being unable to compete throughout her freshman year due to Achilles tendon and shoulder injuries, Monica Shoji made her Yale debut as a sophomore at the UNH Invitational. That week, she was awarded the ECAC Coaches’ Choice Award for her perseverance while recovering. She continued to compete in a total of five meets in 2010, all on the balance beam.
Shoji joined the Bulldogs from Cincinnati Gymnastics Academy. She has competed at the international elite since 2004 and was a member of the USA National Team. At the 2005 US Classic, Shoji won floor and placed second in the all-around. She was fourth in the all-around at the US Nationals in 2005.
