Sherry Yang is the captain of the 2010-2011 Yale gymnastics team. During her junior year, Yang regularly competed on the vault, balance beam and floor. An extremely consistent performer, Yang scored above a 9.0 in every meet in the floor exercise and in all but one meet on the balance beam. Her best performance of the season came against Rutgers, where she scored a 9.350 on the vault and a 9.550 on the floor, both career highs, as well a 9.375 on the beam. As a sophomore, Yang competed on vault, beam and floor in almost every meet. In the last four competitions, she scored above a 9.0 on all three events. Her career highs are a 9.3 on vault at Towson, a 9.4 on beam at the ECAC Championships, and a 9.475 on floor against Penn. Due to an injury, as a freshman Yang was only able to compete on bars. She was a consistent part of the line-up, participating in all but one meet. She earned an ECAC Coaches' Choice Award midway through the season for her excellent bar work. Yang's best performance was at Towson, where she scored a 9.675.

Yang joined the Bulldogs from Capital Gymnastics National Training Center. As a level 10, she was a six-time State and Region VII Championships qualifier. In 2007, she placed fourth in the all-around and qualified to the Level 10 Junior Olympic Nationals, where she placed 14th in the all-around. She also helped her Region VII team to a third-place finish. Yang graduated from Winston Churchill High School. She is majoring in political science.
