NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Yale women’s gymnastics team travels to University Park, Pa., on Saturday for what could be its toughest meet of the year. After finishing fourth with a score of 186.525 at the New Hampshire Invitational, where the Bulldogs were led by senior captain Brigitte Kivisto’s fourth-place finish in the all-around and senior Allison Mak’s fourth-place finish on the vault, Yale will face Cornell, Iowa, and host No. 22 Penn State.

Penn State is the first ranked team that Yale has faced this season. The Nittany Lions, however, have yet to finish first in a meet this season, placing second at a four-way meet hosted by No. 19 Michigan State as well as in Denver’s Winterfest Classic.

Cornell, the defending Ivy Classic champion, had a pair of meets last weekend. On Friday, Jan. 15, the Big Red finished second of four at Maryland, and on Sunday, Jan. 17, it finished fourth of six at the Lindsey Ferris Invitational, hosted by George Washington.

Like Penn State, Iowa has finished second at both its meets this season. In their first meet, the Hawkeyes lost to No. 15 Michigan, beating Bowling Green. Last Friday, Jan. 15, Iowa finished behind Michigan State and ahead of Illinois-Chicago in a home meet.

Competition starts at 7:00 p.m. in Penn State’s Rec Hall.
