Yale Places Second as Kivisto, Mak Honored

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Yale women’s gymnastics team fell to Bridgeport but defeated Southern Connecticut State at John J. Lee Amphitheater. Bridgeport, ranked second nationally in Division III, scored a 190.700, while Yale finished with a 188.300. SCSU was third with a 187.200. The meet, which was the Bulldogs’ last home competition of the season, served as Senior Day, and seniors Brigitte Kivisto and Allison Mak were honored.

Kivisto and Mak began their Senior Day performances with Yale’s top two performances on the vault. Kivisto finished third overall with a 9.700, while Mak finished ninth with a 9.450. Freshman Stephanie Goldstein placed tenth with a 9.425, a career record.

On the uneven parallel bars, freshman bars specialist Lindsay Andsager, who also made her career debut on the vault, placed fourth with a 9.650. Kivisto finished eighth with a 9.525 and Mak was 11th, posting a season-best 9.325.

On the balance beam, Mak finished in a two-way tie for first with Bridgeport’s Emily Repko with a 9.625. Kivisto and freshman Tara Feld finished in fourth and fifth place with a 9.525 and a 9.300 respectively.

On the floor, Yale bested its season-high team score by nearly a full point, with three Yale gymnasts achieving career bests. Feld won the event with a career-record 9.850, while Kivisto was shortly behind in second with a 9.750. Sophomore Talis Trevino tied her career best with a 9.650, finishing fifth. Goldstein placed eighth with a career-best 9.625.

In the all-around competition, Kivisto finished her home career with a victory, scoring a 38.500 to finish first. Mak also had a strong performance, placing fourth overall with a 37.725, her highest score of the year. Feld placed sixth with a 37.275 and Goldstein finished seventh with a career-best 37.250.

The Bulldogs resume competition with the Ivy Classic at Brown at 1:00 p.m. next Sunday, Feb. 28.
