Mak Wins Balance Beam, Yale Sixth at ECACs

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Senior Allison Mak successfully defended her conference title on the balance beam at the ECAC Championships, helping the Bulldogs to a score of 189.5000 and a sixth-place finish overall. Mak was not the only Yale gymnast to reach the podium, as senior Brigitte Kivisto finished second in the all-around competition and freshman Lindsay Andsager tied for third on the uneven parallel bars. With a score of 192.725, Towson won the meet for the sixth consecutive year, besting Cornell, the nearest competitor, by 1.925 points.

On the vault, Kivisto and freshman Tara Feld led the way, both scoring a 9.750 and tying for eighth. Kivisto's mark tied her career high. Mak and freshman Stephanie Goldstein followed her with a 9.600 and a 9.550, season and career highs respectively. Junior Sherry Yang scored a 9.250 and freshman Chelsea Savit had a 9.225.

On the uneven parallel bars, Andsager scored a career-high 9.725 to tie for third, while Kivisto finished 12th with a 9.525. Mak and Goldstein scored a 9.300 and a 9.000 respectively, while sophomore Talis Trevino scored an 8.550.

Mak's 9.775 earned her a .025 point victory on the balance beam. She was followed by Kivisto, who finished ninth with of 9.600, and Goldstein, who placed 16th with a 9.525. Feld scored a 9.500, while Yang scored a 9.225

On the floor exercise, Kivisto finished fourth with a 9.750, while Trevino's 9.675 placed her 12th. Goldstein scored a 9.525, and Yang scored a 9.475. Feld was narrowly behind with a 9.450, while Mak had a 9.325.

In the all-around competition, Kivisto narrowly missed victory, finishing second with a 38.625. Mak finished ninth with a career-high 38.000. Also competing were Goldstein, who scored a 37.600, and Feld, who scored a 36.650.

This meets concludes the regular season for the Bulldogs. The NCAA Regionals will be held on Friday, Apr. 11 at Penn State. Team and individual qualifiers will be announced Monday.
