Yale Finishes Third at Ithaca

NEW HAVEN, Conn. After a season-opening victory against Springfield College last weekend, Yale placed third in a quad meet hosted by Ithaca College with a score or 179.500. Ithaca won the competition with a score of 184.750, defeating Brockport by six-tenths of a point. Rhode Island College placed fourth with a score of 155.575.

Yale opened the day on the balance beam, with Tara Feld placing sixth to lead the Bulldogs with a score of 9.300, improving upon her beam score from last week. Like Feld, Sherry Yang and Tabitha Tay posted season-best scores as well, placing 12th and 14th with scores of 9.075 and 8.900 respectively.

The floor exercise was Yale's strongest event for the second-straight competition. Feld won the event with a 9.725, while Talis Trevino and Stephanie Goldstein both finished in the top five with respective scores of 9.625 and 9.600. Yang also posted a 9.025 for the Bulldogs.

On the vault, Goldstein placed seventh with a 9.400, while Trevino finished eighth with a career best 9.375. The vault marked Yale's only event in which all scoring gymnasts eclipsed that barrier, with Maren Hopkins, Nicole Tay, and Yang also finishing with scores greater than 9.000.

Yale closed the day on the uneven parallel bars, with specialist Lindsay Andsager winning the event with a 9.525. Trevino finished seventh with a 8.950, her best score of the young season.

In the all-around competition, Goldstein placed highest for the Bulldogs for the second straight week, earning fifth place with a 35.600. Feld and Nicole Tay finished in sixth and seventh places.

Yale has next weekend off before traveling to Penn on Jan. 29 for its Ivy League opener.
