NEW HAVEN, Conn. – In the Ivy League opener for both teams, Penn defeated Yale 187.200-181.000 this afternoon in Philadelphia. Tara Feld was the top performer for the Bulldogs, finishing second in the all-around competition with a score of 37.800 and winning the vault.
In additions to Feld's event-winning 9.750, a season best, on the vault, four other Yale gymnasts scored above a 9.000. Stephanie Goldstein finished fifth with a 9.300 and Talis Trevino placed sixth with a 9.125. Sherry Yang and Maren Hopkins finished eighth and ninth, respectively, with scores of 9.050 and 9.025.
Yale was affected by several falls on the uneven parallel bars. Lindsay Andsager placed fourth for the Bulldogs with a 9.350. Feld was the only other Yale gymnast to top 9.000, finishing seventh with a 9.075.
On the balance beam, Feld led the Bulldogs with a 9.350, placing third. Goldstein tied for fourth with a 9.300. Hopkins and Yang finished seventh and eighth with scores of seventh and eighth.
Feld was also Yale's top performer on the floor exercise, tying for third with a 9.625. Trevino scored a 9.375, placing sixth, while Yang and Goldstein tied for seventh with a 9.350.
In addition to Feld, Goldstein and Hopkins competed in all four events for the Bulldogs, finishing fifth and sixth in the all-around competition.
