NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Yale gymnastics team will kick off the 2012 season Sunday with a quad meet hosted by Springfield College. The Bulldogs will also face teams from Brockport and Southern Connecticut.

This is the second year in a row the Bulldogs will open the season at Springfield, where the team defeated the hosts 175.875-171.150 last year. Junior Stephanie Goldstein won the all-around competition with a score of 35.35. Yale defeated Springfield a second time at last year's Bulldog Invitational, 184.35-178.95.

Yale met Brockport once in competition last year, falling 184.15-179.5 at the Ithaca quad meet. Yale faced SCSU twice in the 2011 season, defeating the Owls 187.45-185.85 at home but falling 187.825-186.0 at Rutgers.

The Yale team is beginning the season relatively late this year. Springfield has competed the past two weekends, scoring as high as a 182.95. SCSU scored a 186.0 last weekend against West Chester, and Brockport bested Ithaca last weekend 185.8-182.325.

The meet will mark the career debut of freshmen Brianna Chrisman, Joyce Li, Katherine Lucas and Morgan Traina.

Competition begins at 1 p.m.
