NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Yale gymnastics team is looking to continue its upward momentum when it faces off against Southern Connecticut State University at home on Saturday. The Bulldogs have posted season-high team scores the past two weekends, improving on a 190.275 two weekends ago with a 190.4 last weekend at the Bulldog Invitational.

Yale faced SCSU in the Bulldogs' first meet of the season, a quad-meet at Springfield. Yale scored a 189.475 to beat runner-up SCSU, who had a team total of 188.825. Last weekend SCSU took first place in a quad-meet at Cornell with Ithaca and West Chester. The Owls had a team score of 190.05, suggesting that the teams are evenly matched coming into Saturday.

Last year the Bulldogs faced SCSU twice, defeating the Owls 187.45-185.85 at home but falling 187.825-186.0 at Rutgers. Saturday is an important meet for Yale as it is the weekend leading up to the Ivy Classic, which will take place Feb. 26 at Cornell.

Competition is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m. in Yale's John J. Lee Amphitheater. Following competition there will be a short ceremony honoring Yale seniors Mia Yabut and Talis Trevino. Following the senior recognition ceremony, the gymnastics team will be available for autographs as part of Youth Day.
