Bulldogs Finish Fourth in Ivy Classic
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – In a tightly contested Ivy Classic on Saturday, the Yale gymnastics team finished in fourth place, with a score of 191.100. Brown was victorious with a 193.925, Cornell finished second with a 193.025 and defending champion Penn finished in third place with a 191.600, only .500 in front of the Bulldogs.
In front of an electric crowd in the John J. Lee Amphitheater, a number of Bulldogs delivered extraordinary performances. Senior Tara Feld had a huge day, winning the individual Ivy championship on the floor exercise, finishing with a 9.825. Feld also finished seventh on the bars with a 9.700 and came in sixth in the all-around event with a total score of 38.150. Fellow senior Lindsay Andsager came through in a big way on the bars, tying for second with a 9.800. Senior captain Stephanie Goldstein also had an impressive performance in her last home meet, tying for seventh with a 9.675 on the floor and tying for 11th on the vault, scoring a 9.650.
As they have all season, the dynamic sophomore duo of Joyce Li and Morgan Traina produced extremely solid performances. Li finished third in the all-around with a 38.700, not finishing below 9.550 on any apparatus. She was fifth on bars with a 9.750 and sixth on vault, scoring a 9.700. Traina delivered a monster routine on the floor, scoring a 9.700 to tie for fifth, and finished tenth on the bars with a 9.675. She was fifth in the all-around with a 38.300.
Yale will get another shot at Brown next Saturday, when both teams compete in the New Hampshire invitational, along with Towson and host UNH. The meet is scheduled to begin at 4:00 P.M.
