NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Yale gymnastics team opens its 2014 campaign on Sunday, when it travels to Durham, N.H., for the New Hampshire Invitational. The Bulldogs are primed to get the season off on the right foot as they face Brown, Minnesota and host New Hampshire.
Last year's Invitational came later in the season, in March, and featured Brown, New Hampshire and Towson. Yale finished fourth in that meet, scoring 190.925. In that meet, junior Joyce Li delivered a personal-best on the bars to finish fifth, scoring a 9.800, and sophomore Brittney Sooksengdao had a career-best on the beam (9.650) to finish 10th, foreshadowing her performance at the ECAC championships, where she won the beam competition.
This meet marks the first chance for Yale's highly touted freshman class to showcase their abilities. Anella Anderson, Kacie Traina, Mitzi Unda-Sosa and Tatiana Winkelman all figure to feature prominently this season, and Sunday is their first opportunity to make meaningful contributions in a competition.
The meet is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m.
