NEW HAVEN, Conn. – This Saturday, the Yale gymnastics team will host the Bulldog Invitational in the John J. Lee Amphitheater. Bridgeport, Brown and Southern Connecticut will be competing in the meet alongside Yale. The Bulldogs will be trying to carry the momentum from their victory over Penn last weekend into Saturday's meet.
Last season's Bulldog Invitational featured Bridgeport, Springfield and West Chester, with Bridgeport finishing in first, Yale second, West Chester third and Springfield in fourth. In that meet, juniors Joyce Li and Morgan Traina led the Bulldogs, finishing second and third, respectively, in the all-around competition. Li finished above 9.500 on every apparatus and Traina finished third on the beam with a 9.725.
Li and Traina have featured prominently this season as well, but they have lots of help as well. Freshmen Anella Anderson and Tatiana Winkelman have made strides in their first two meets and should continue their progress on Saturday. Sophomore Brittney Sooksengdao showed tremendous promise in her freshman season, winning the ECAC balance beam title, and will be a major contributor on Saturday. The Bulldogs will face a tough challenge in the Bulldog Invitational, but they are prepared to meet it.
The meet will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday in the John J. Lee Amphitheater.
