Yale Finishes Fourth at Bulldog Invitational
Tough Competition in John J. Lee Amphitheater
NEW HAVEN, Conn.—The Yale gymnastics team finished in fourth place at the Feb. 1 Bulldog Invitational, which it hosted in the John J. Lee Amphitheater in New Haven, Conn. Bridgeport won the meet with a score of 192.275, edging out Brown on 191.075. Yale closed the day's competition with a score of 187.125.
It was a tough day for the Bulldogs across all the apparatus. In the all-round competition, juniors Joyce Li and Morgan Traina finished in sixth and eighth place with overall scores of 37.275 and 35.000, respectively. Traina, who two weeks ago was named ECAC Co-Gymnast of the Week, tied for third on the beam with a score of 9.725. Li and Traina were also Yale's top-placed gymnasts at last year's Bulldog Invitational.
Yale's gymnasts posted several strong results on the beam. Sophomore Brittney Sooksengdao, who won the ECAC balance beam title last year, tied for third, while senior captain Ashley O'Connor tied for sixth with a score of 9.650. Li finished in 10th place with a score of 9.500.
Junior Brianna Chrisman, who finished seventh on the bars with a score of 9.550, and sophomore Camilla Opperman, who closed in sixth place in the floor exercise with a score of 9.675, registered the Bulldogs' other top-10 finishes of the day.
The Bulldogs will be back in action next weekend, when they host New Hampshire for a Feb. 8 meet in the John J. Lee Amphitheater.
