Barbara Galleher Tonry has coached the Yale women's gymnastics
team since its inception in 1973 and has made it one of the most
successful teams in the history of Yale athletics. The 1987 NCAA
Eastern Region's co-Coach of the Year, she has compiled one of the
best records in the country. Her teams have captured 14 Ivy Classic
championships since the first league meet in 1977. Tonry has one of
the finest athletic backgrounds of any Yale coach. She is a member
of the U.S. Gymnastics Federation Hall of Fame, the National
Tumbling and Trampoline Hall of Fame and the Texas Hall of Fame.
Her all-around gymnastics talents won her a spot on the 1964 U.S.
Olympic training squad and earned her All-America honors 10 times.
She has served on numerous gymnastics committees, including the
National Association for Intercollegiate Gymnastics, and was
recently named to the U.S. Gymnastics Federation Hall of Fame
Selection Committee. Her resume also includes a Texas mixed doubles
tennis championship and a Texas AAU 3-meter diving title. In
addition, she was twice named a finalist (1954, 1958) for the
prestigious Sullivan Award, presented each year to the nation's top
amateur athlete. In 1994, she was presented with the Texas Heritage
Award. She and her husband, Don, a former Olympian and NCAA
champion gymnast, wrote the Sports Illustrated Guide to Gymnastics.
She is a 1961 graduate of North Texas and holds a masters degree
from Southern Connecticut.

Rodney Gust enters his first season as the assistant coach for
the Yale Women’s Gymnastics Team. With more than
14 years of club level experience in Missouri, he brings a
great deal of knowledge and excitement to the program.
Gust's efforts as an elite level coach have helped produce two
Silver Medalists at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, Greece. He
has also coached a member of the 2007 World Championship Gold Medal
Team. In addition, his mentoring and coaching skills have helped
produce Regional, State and National champions. Many gymnasts,
under his direction, have gone on to compete successfully at
Division I level collegiate programs throughout the
country.
His depth of experience combined with his competitive, enthusiastic
nature and a true passion for the sport will prove to be a great
asset to the well-established Yale Gymnastics’ program.
