Kip Reed

Position:
Assistant Coach

Kip Reed, who has joined the athletic department staff as assistant women's gymnastics coach in the fall of 2006, is a 20-year coaching veteran. Reed has been a gymnastics coach and team director for over 15 years. He opened his own gym, New England Gymnastics Express, in 1988. In 1989, he received the United States Elite Coaches Association Rookie Coach of the Year Award, and a Region VI Achievement Award in 1990. Reed coached several national team members, and was one of the coaches for the United States squad that won the gold medal at the 1991 Pan American Games in Santiago, Cuba. He was the individual coach of team member Hillary Anderson, who took second place in the uneven bars at that event. Anderson qualified for the U.S. National Championships for six straight years. Reed also coached Amy Myerson, who took second place in the all-around and won a gold medal a a member of the U.S. team at the Junior Pan American Games in Ponce, Puerto Rico. Reed is a 1977 graduate of Southern Connecticut State University. He received his Master's from SCSU in 1982 in Biomechanics and Exercise, and Physiology. Reed was a member of the SCSU 1973-74 Owls gymnastics team that were Division II NCAA National Team Champions.
