NEW HAVEN, Conn. - In a battle of the Connecticut women's gymnastics teams, Yale impressed the home crowd with a two point team win, as well as victories in each of the individual events. Alina Liao led the way, winning floor, bars, and all-around, while Lauren Tatsuno and Allison Mak received the vault and beam champion titles, respectively. Yale's final score was a 187.7, over University of Bridgeport's 185.675. Southern Connecticut took third with a 183.225.

The Bulldogs started out on vault, led by Tatsuno's 9.45. Brigitte Kivisto scored a 9.25 (6th place), with Liao closely behind with a 9.2.

On the bars, Yale received strong performances from Liao, Kivisto, and Sherry Yang. Kivisto's fluid routine earned her a 9.425 and fourth place. Yang's impressive high bar combination landed her in third place with a 9.45. Liao's 9.55 grabbed her a first place tie with SCSU's Sarah Darst.

Yale's strength on beam shone through once again, with a sweep of the top three scores. Kristen Campbell opened up with a 9.575 (5th place). Mak followed with an enthralling combination of rarely seen skills that won her first place with a 9.775. Laura Lombardi's graceful routine earned her a 9.525 (7th place), and Tatsuno followed with a 9.125. Kivisto's solid connections received a 9.65 (4th place), and Liao earned second place with a 9.725.

Closing on floor, Bulldog highlights include Tatsuno, Kivisto, and Liao. Tatsuno tumbled her way to a 9.525 fourth place finish, while Kivisto's sharp routine earned a 9.675 and second place. Liao took the floor title with a 9.75, closing out the competition on a high note.

Liao won the all-around, with a 38.225. Kivisto's 38.0 earned her second place, and Campbell scored a 36.325 for sixth place.

Next Saturday, Jan. 26, the Bulldogs will take on the University of Pennsylvania at John J. Lee Amphitheater. Competition starts at 1pm.
