NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Alina Liao won the all-around competition with a score of 38.125, turning in strong performances on all events and placing in the top three on bars, beam, and floor. Liao led the Bulldogs (187.075) to a dominant win over home team Southern Connecticut State University (183.5) and the University of Bridgeport (179.325).
The Bulldogs swept vault with senior Miki Seltzer scoring a 9.6 and placing first. Jessica Tai placed second with her 9.45, and Lauren Tatsuno tied for third with a 9.35. Yale managed the same feat on the balance beam, this time with Tatsuno as champion with a 9.625. Suchitra Paul and Liao tied for second, just hundredths of a point behind at 9.6. Laura Lombardi placed third with a 9.4. On the floor, Seltzer's winning 9.825 was the top score of the meet. Liao's 9.725 earned her second place.
"The girls did an absolutely outstanding job," said Head Coach Barbara Tonry. "It was a team effort. They're very proud of themselves, as they should be."
Behind Liao in the all-around was Southern's Erika Pysh with a score of 37.0. Her teammate, Kristin Kenworthy, placed third with a 36.875.
Next Saturday, the Bulldogs will travel to Rutgers in a quad meet with Pittsburgh and Brockport at 1 pm.
