Providence, RI - The Yale gymnastics team competed today in the Ivy Classic Championship. Although Yale failed to defend the championship title, freshman Alina Liao '09 scored big with a first place finish in the all-around competition. Miki Seltzer '07 also led the Bulldogs by capturing first place in the floor exercise.
Cornell claimed the Ivy Classic Championship with a score of 188.250. Penn finished second with a team score of 188.050, Yale was third with a 187.675, and Brown came in fourth place with a score of 185.500.
On the vault Cornell's Colleen Davis and Penn's Lauren Markowitz came in first with a 9.650. Seltzer and Kimberly So '09 led the Bulldogs on the vault. Seltzer finished with a score of 9.600 and So scored a 9.550.
On the beam Cornell's Randi Bisbano recorded the top mark with a 9.775. Liao posted the Elis' top score with a 9.675.
Seltzer scored a 9.700 on floor to capture first place in the event. Liao nabbed second place with a 9.600, and Suchitra Paul '07 scored high with a 9.525 on floor.
Cornell's Cathy Schnell was first on bars with a 9.650. Leading the Bulldogs was Sarah Peterson '07, who scored a 9.550, and So, who recorded a 9.575 on the event.
Liao won the all-around competition with a score of 38.100. Cornell's Randi Bisbano was second with 37.975, and So scored a 37.550 to capture third place in the all-around.
The Bulldogs return to action on Friday, Mar. 3, at 6:30 pm, when they travel to Kingston Rhode Island for a meet against Rhode Island and Temple.
