TOWSON, Md. - After a rough meet last weekend, the Bulldogs pulled together for their best competition thus far with a 190.725 team score at Towson. This is more than 1.5 points higher than Yale has scored this season. While the entire team shone, Alina Liao was a particular standout, winning the all-around competition with a 38.65.
Towson won the competition with a 193.3, and William and Mary placed second with a 192.025.
On vault, Lauren Tatsuno scored a 9.55, with Liao right behind her at 9.5.
With a 47.85 team score on bars, this set of routines was certainly a cause for celebration as all six Bulldog gymnasts hit their routines. Cynthia Leung opened with a clean routine, scoring 9.325 to set the tone. Kristen Campbell and Laura Lombardi followed, catching their high bar release moves for identical 9.475s. Brigitte Kivisto scored a 9.525, and Sherry Yang added a 9.675. Liao closed with a 9.7 for fifth place.
Yale had a characteristic solid beam line-up, begun by Campbell's 9.65. Liao also received the same score. Lombardi added a 9.5 and Kivisto, a 9.675 that earned her fifth place. Tatsuno scored a 9.725, which put her in third place.
Floor was another great rotation for the Bulldogs, with four gymnasts scoring a 9.7 or above. Allison Mak contributed a 9.475. Campbell and Tatsuno each received a 9.7 for fifth place. Kivisto added a 9.725 for fourth, and Liao's 9.8 put her in second place.
Liao won the all-around competition with a 38.65, edging out William and Mary's Tricia Long (38.625). Kivisto's scores added up to a 38.2, and Campbell had a 37.725.
On Friday, Mar. 21, the Bulldogs will travel to Providence to take on Brown. Competition starts at 6pm.
