NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Just across town at SCSU's James Moore Field House, Alina Liao and Brigitte Kivisto competed in their last meet for the 2008-2009 season. Despite winning the all-around, Liao isn't finished, as she also qualified to the finals in three events.
Along with Katie Canning from Temple and Rashonda Cannie from Texas Women's University, Liao won the all-around competition with a 38.725. She earned a 9.675 on vault (12th place), 9.65 on bars (2nd place), 9.75 on beam (8th place), and 9.65 (10th place) on floor.
Kivisto competed as an event specialist on beam. She scored a 9.125.
The top four teams - Texas Women', Bridgeport, Cornell, and William & Mary - will be vying for the team title on Friday. While Texas Women's won Thursday evening's competition with a 192.850, the preliminary scores do not count towards the final score.
On Saturday, the top ten finishers on each event will face off in the event finals. Liao will be competing on bars, beam, and floor.
Friday's competition starts at 7:00 p.m. Saturday's action kicks off at 1:00 p.m.
