Feb. 8, 2008
Since the 2008 season began one month ago, Yale has had a team member win an ECAC award every week. The latest in this streak is junior all-arounder Alina Liao, who just received Gymnast of the Week. Liao had team-high scores on vault (9.6), bars (9.675) and floor (9.8) last weekend in a narrow loss to University of Alaska Anchorage. She has placed in the top three in the all-around every meet this season, including two wins.
Mak started off the awards by competing three events in her first meet, after a knee injury only allowed her to be in the beam line-up last season. So far, Mak has had three beam wins.
Yang followed, in recognition of her stellar bar routines despite a foot injury that is preventing her from competing in the all-around. Bars is Yale's weakest event and the team is thankful for Yang's consistency.
In the home meet against Penn, Lombardi was rewarded for her performances in all three of the line-ups that she's in. She placed second on bars with a 9.575, third on beam with a 9.5, and seventh on vault with a 9.225.
This Saturday, the Bulldogs will travel to New Hampshire for the Fox Run Invitational, against UNH, Penn State, and William & Mary. Competition starts at 7pm.
