Two Elis have qualified for the Northeast NCAA Regional Championship. Senior Kathryn Fong and junior Anne McPherson will head to the University of New Hampshire on April 9 to compete with some of the nation's top gymnastics programs. Both gymnasts were integral in Yale recapturing the Ivy Classic title earlier this year.
Fong is the event's top-seeded uneven bars specialist with an average score of 9.835 this year. Fong has recorded eight of Yale's 12 best all-time scores on the uneven bars, including the top four.
The Brooklyn, N.Y, native has won three consecutive uneven bars titles at the Ivy Classic, became Yale's tenth Ivy Classic all-around champion in 2003 and became the fourth Bulldog to take home the all-around title at the ECAC Championships in 2003. Fong will compete in the same rotation as Louisiana State University at the regional.
In addition to Fong, McPherson qualified as an all-around competitor and will compete in the same rotation as the University of Arkansas. McPherson has had a tremendous year for the Elis, highlighted by all-around, floor exercise and balance beam titles at the Ivy Classic on February 6.
In addition to Arkansas and LSU, Oklahoma, UNH, Pittsburgh, and Rutgers will compete at the regional event.
