May 21, 2009

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Three Yale Bulldogs -- Christine Glandorf (Boston, Mass.) of the women's crew team, Alina Liao (Saratoga, Calif.) of the gymnastics team and Ashley McCauley (Rye, N.Y.) of the field hockey team -- were named second team at-large ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District I Thursday. Yale was the only school in the district with three honorees.

Glandorf, a senior who sits in the No. 1 seat in Yale's varsity eight, helped the Bulldogs to an Eastern Sprints varsity eight championship, an Ivy League title and the Willing Trophy for overall supremacy at the EAWRC Sprints this past weekend. She will make her fourth NCAA appearance at the end of this month, having helped the Bulldogs' varsity eight to back-to-back national titles as a sophomore and a junior. Yale, which began the season ranked No. 1 in the country and is currently ranked No. 3, is 8-1 and has lost only two dual races during Glandorf's time in the varsity eight. She is a two-time CRCA Scholar Athlete.

Glandorf is a history major in Jonathan Edwards College. She attended Boston Latin School.

Liao, the ECAC Gymnast of the Year and Yale's captain, won all-around titles at the ECAC Championship, Ivy Classic and Collegiate Nationals this year. She was also a four-time NCAA Regionals qualifier. Liao was the Ivy Classic all-around champion three times and also finished first on the beam at the Ivy Classic this past year. She was an ECAC Scholar Athlete and Academic All-Ivy League selection.

Liao, a senior, is a political science major in Timothy Dwight College. She attended Saratoga High School.

McCauley was a second team NFHCA All-Mideast Region selection and a unanimous first team All-Ivy League selection after totaling 14 goals and 31 points (third in the Ivy League in both categories) in 17 games this past season. She is fifth on Yale's all-time lists in goals (29) and points (67). McCauley was second in the NCAA in goals per game (15 in 17 games) and sixth in points per game (35 in 17 games) in 2007. She led the Ivy League in goals that year and was named Second Team All-Ivy. She has two of the top seven highest single-season goal totals in Yale history and two of the top six highest single-season point totals in Yale history. McCauley is a three-time NFHCA National Academic Squad selection.

McCauley, a junior, is an American studies major in Ezra Stiles College. She attended Rye High School.

Academic All-District voting is done by the members of College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). There are eight districts throughout the country, with 11 first team and 11 second team honorees in District I this year. Members of the first team in each district are eligible for ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America honors.

The at-large ESPN The Magazine All-America program includes up to three candidates per school across 13 different women's NCAA sports (bowling, crew, fencing, field hockey, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming, tennis and water polo).
