Callahan Stops 34
HANOVER, N.H. – Amanda Trunzo had a pair of goals and Lauren Kelly and Moira Scanlon added one each to lead Dartmouth to a 4-1 win over Yale Saturday night at Thompson Arena. Sophomore goaltender Erin Callahan came up with a 34-save effort as she continued to fill the void left by an injury to senior Jackee Snikeris, but it was not enough to overcome the Big Green's 38-13 shot advantage.
Trunzo and Kelly scored in the first period, when Dartmouth (2-0-0, 2-0-0 ECAC Hockey) outshot Yale 20-4. The Bulldogs had their only two power plays of the game in that frame but could not score. Callahan, who came on in relief of Snikeris the night before at Harvard and led Yale to a 3-3 tie with 31 saves, had 18 saves by the end of the first period.
Trunzo extended Dartmouth's lead to 3-0 midway through the second. Junior defenseman Heather Grant got her first tally of the season at 13:35, an unassisted goal, to pull Yale within 3-1. Scanlon then put the game out of reach with a goal at 16:26 of the third.
Yale (0-2-2, 0-1-1 ECAC Hockey) returns to New Haven for its home opener, Tuesday night at 7 p.m. vs. Providence.
