Ladiges Makes 29 Saves
BOSTON – Florence Schelling made 34 saves to lead Northeastern to a 4-0 shutout of Yale Saturday afternoon at Mathews Arena. Casey Pickett scored a pair of goals for the Huskies, and junior goalie Genny Ladiges made 29 saves for Yale.
Pickett opened the scoring with a power play goal off a rebound at 3:30, and Brittany Esposito scored less than two minutes later for a quick 2-0 advantage for Northeastern (7-2-2). Yale (0-4-2) has been outscored 8-2 in the first period in its first six games.
The Bulldogs outshot the Huskies 17-9 in the second period, and had four power plays, but they were unable to get any past Schelling. Shortly after the Huskies killed off the fifth Yale power play of the game early in the third period, Pickett put the game out of reach with her second goal. Lindsay Domaas made it 4-0 with a tally off a rebound at the 18:04 mark.
Yale returns home to Ingalls Rink on Friday, Nov. 12 vs. RPI. That is the "White Out for Mandi" game, a fundraiser for Mandi Schwartz in her battle against cancer. There is no charge for admission, and donors are pledging based on the attendance total. Fans are asked to wear white, and special white t-shirts will be on sale for $5 at Commons during the upcoming week and at the game itself.
