Bulldogs Coming Off First Win of Season
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – With the first win of the season now out of the way, the Yale women's ice hockey team now looks to start its first winning streak. ECAC Hockey opponents St. Lawrence and Clarkson visit Ingalls Rink this weekend.
The Bulldogs are coming off a 4-1 win over Union last Saturday in which four different players scored goals, including the first goals of the season for senior forward Bray Ketchum (Greenwich, Conn.), sophomore forward Danielle Moncion (Round Lake Center, Ont.) and sophomore defenseman Tara Tomimoto (Calgary, Alta.). The game-winner was scored by freshman forward Jackie Raines (London, Ont.). Junior goalie Genny Ladiges (Almonte, Ont.) made 24 saves for the win.
Yale's last meeting with St. Lawrence was a historic 1-0 win for the Bulldogs, their first win in the series against the Saints. Moncion scored the game's only goal.
St. Lawrence (4-6-2, 1-2-0 ECAC Hockey) just had a four-game unbeaten streak (3-0-1) snapped with a 4-1 loss at Clarkson Tuesday night. The Saints had been 0-4-1 in the five games before their unbeaten streak.
The Saints feature one of the top freshmen in the country in forward Rylee Smith, whose 6-3-9 line through the first 12 games places her 12th in the country in points per game among rookies. A sophomore, forward Kelly Sabatine, is second on the team in goals with five.
Caitlyn Lahonen and Maxie Weisz have split time in goal for St. Lawrence. Lahonen has a .903 save percentage and a 2.34 goals-against average, while Weisz has a .916 save percentage and a 2.39 goals-against average.
Clarkson (5-7-1, 3-0-0 ECAC Hockey), which plays at Brown Friday night, is one of just two ECAC Hockey teams left with undefeated records in conference play (4-0-0 Cornell is the other). The Golden Knights have won four out of their last five games, allowing only seven goals in that span.
Forward Juana Baribeau enters the weekend leading the Golden Knights in scoring (3-5-8). Forwards Brittany Mulligan (2-4-6) and Melissa Waldie (4-2-6) are tied for second.
Lauren Dahm has played the majority of the games in goal for Clarkson, posting a .915 save percentage with a 2.68 goals-against average. Erica Howe has played the last four periods, and has a .939 save percentage.
Friday, 7 p.m. vs. St. Lawrence and Saturday, 4 p.m. vs. Clarkson:
