Saints Top Bulldogs 3-1
Raines Scores Yale Goal
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – St. Lawrence rode a pair of first-period goals to a win at Ingalls Rink Friday night, besting Yale 3-1. Freshman forward Jackie Raines scored the Bulldogs' goal.
Coming off its first win of the season, Yale (1-6-2, 1-3-1 ECAC Hockey) reverted back to a tough trend in the first period. A pair of goals by the Saints in a span of just over four minutes, including a short-hander by Alley Bero and an even-strength goal by Michelle Ng, put the Bulldogs in an early hole. Yale has been outscored 9-4 in the first period so far this year.
The Bulldogs outshot the Saints 12-10 in the second period but could not make a move on the scoreboard, as St. Lawrence net minder Maxie Weisz turned aside every shot. Both Yale power plays in the second came up empty.
A goal by Karell Emard at 3:04 of the third extended the lead to 3-0 for St. Lawrence (5-6-2, 2-2-0 ECAC Hockey). Shots were even at 13 for the period, and the Bulldogs finally got one past Weisz at 15:48 when senior defenseman Samantha MacLean and sophomore forward Danielle Moncion -- who had the game-winner in Yale's 1-0 win over St. Lawrence the last time these two teams met -- set up Raines' goal.
Weisz finished with 31 saves, while junior goalie Genny Ladiges made 29 for Yale. The Bulldogs' 32 shots on goal, including seven by senior forward Bray Ketchum and six by junior forward Aleca Hughes, represent the third time in the last four games Yale has put 30 or more shots on goal.
Yale returns to action Saturday at 4 p.m. against Clarkson, which tied Brown 1-1 Friday night.
